Adult Social
The Adult Social is a wonderful way to connect and have fun in a relaxed atmosphere with fellow V-O parents at the beginning of the school year. Come enjoy an adults only evening of appetizers and drinks with new and returning families!
Chairpersons
The committee plans the party, finds the locale, decides on themes and decor and manages the night.
Family Events
Family Events bring the entire V-O community together in both fun and educational ways. Last year we hosted the first-ever V-O Fall Spooktacular - with a Haunted House - and a Game Night where kids and adults tested their smarts on new, educational and fun games.
The annual end-of-the-year picnic at V-O is a mellow opportunity to chill on V-O grounds with other families as the school year winds down.
Chairpersons
This Committee works throughout the year to bring the V-O community together in family friendly ways. The Co-Chairs recruit volunteers for many event-specific roles.
Field Day
Field Day is a fun-filled event for all students as they rotate through a number of stations, traveling as a class, from dunking their teachers, parents and the principal, to competing to score goals and keep the hula hoop going! One of the highlights from the day is the SLUSH! This three hour event is held on the field in front of Vinson-Owen and is only able to happen thanks to the many volunteers, teachers and administrators.
Parents can be involved onsite by volunteering at a station, filling water balloons or creating signage beforehand. Come volunteer and be a part of this very exciting tradition! Our most valuable volunteers are found at the dunk tank! ;)
Chairpersons
The Field Day Co-Chairs assist the PE Teacher in creating a fun day for teachers, students and parents. They are responsible for ordering the dunk tank used for Dunk-A-Dad, the slush, ordering the necessary supplies and coordinating lunch options for the day. The Co-Chairs must communicate with the Newsletter Editors to promote volunteer sign-up.
International Night
International Night celebrates the many cultures we have at the V-O! In years past we have had over 80 countries represented at our International Night. The three main components that make this evening such a success is we have food from all over the world, there are also cultural performances done by our children.
Finally, families and their children have a booth where they display pictures, artifacts, costumes etc which tells us all about their native country.
Chairpersons
The International Night Co-Chairs coordinate all aspects, from recruiting volunteers, recruiting local area restaurants to donate food, setup/teardown and communicating with school administration.
Junior AuthorFest
A beloved tradition - Junior AuthorFest celebrates all the budding authors at V-O! Students create biographies, short stories, poetry and essays with parent volunteers helping to the works into tangible books to share.
Over the course of several weeks, students write, draw, decorate and create wonderful stories, poetry, and biographies to share with their families and friends. Parent volunteers work to type, laminate and bind each book to preserve their work. It all comes together on one day where the children share their books with each other and the many parents who come to view them.
The committee is ideal for parents wishing to get involved at V-O and cannot commit to a schedule. Throughout April and May, parents are invited into V-O to organize, collate, staple and laminate the many titles that will be presented at AuthorFest!
Chairpersons
The Junior AuthorFest Co-Chairs recruit and oversee the parent volunteers who organize materials to laminate and prepare the publications for presenting at the annual Junior AuthorFest.

V-O on Skates
V-O on Skates, an all-school event, commemorates Winchester’s Maribel Vinson-Owen and her daughters, Maribel and Laurence. They were members of the U.S. Figure Skating Team and died in a plane crash en route to the 1961 World Championships.
Maribel Vinson-Owen was not only an amazing figure skater and coach, but she was also a pioneer for human rights. She coached Mabel Fairbanks who went on to pave the way for future African American figure skaters. During February, students learn about the Vinson-Owen family, and then as a tradition, celebrate the Vinson-Owens by being together at the ice skating rink.
This is a fun day that students and staff look forward to year after year! Come volunteer and be a part of this very exciting tradition. Volunteers can assist children with skating gear, help rent skates, if needed, and encourage them to be safe on the ice. Volunteers can also assist the chairperson with the duties listed below.
Chairpersons
The V-O on Skates Co-Chairs coordinate the associated Field Trip to Flynn Rink. Duties include reserving the rink and buses, confirming the bus schedule, distributing the permission slip and waiver, arranging classroom seating at the rink, coordinating refreshments and requesting Newsletter submissions. Historically, the field trip has tatken place the Friday before February Vacation.
V-O on Stage
A talent show, V-O style, featuring students performing music, dance, comedy and more!
V-O On Stage is a 2-evening event showcasing all the incredible talent right under our own school roof. Dancing, music, stand-up comedy, karate and gymnastics are just a few of the amazing acts performed at V-O On Stage. This hugely popular event begins with Kindergarten-2nd graders performing the 1st evening, followed by a 2nd show the following week of 3rd-5th grade performers. Look for online registration in early Spring.
Chairpersons
The V-O on Stage Co-Chairs manage the advertising and registration for this school-wide event. Additionally, they recruit volunteers to help during the live events with everything from stage management, talent check-in, and EmCee management to helping with crowd management. Please reach out if your would like to help in any way!
